A Saturday Spiritual Practice

Bethany Straus · January 23, 2021 · Leave a Comment

After a busy but overall pleasant week, I was excited to have a day to myself to do anything or nothing at all. I was ready to dive into a marathon another tv show on Netflix, as I am wont to do, but instead I took the early afternoon to do some cleaning around the house.

As I vacuumed the floors, I thought about how grateful I was to have stable housing and to be living as comfortably as I am, especially as the temperatures continue to drop.

As I cleaned the counters, reflected on all of the patience and grace that has been extended to me from family, coworkers, friends, and strangers.

As I dusted, I recalled my moments of joy from the past week, from successfully teaching my new rescue dog  to  lie down, to sharing a laugh with my brother, and making some delicious black bean burgers.

I cared for my living space as I cared for my soul and I ended my spiritual practice with an overwhelming sense of joy and calm.

2020-2021 cleaning, gratefulness, joy, spiritual practice
